Gopherspace is made up of Gopher servers.
Unlike WWW servers, these servers have an internal hierarchy: Gopher has a central server called the "Golden Gopher", which is located in Minnesota. 
All the other servers are connected to it, and are divided into regions, types of organizations, etc.
